Special tools and workshop equipment required
Removing
- Bring wheels in the straight position.
- Position the steering wheel as far down as possible using the full range of the steering column adjuster.
- Turn the steering wheel to the center position (wheels are straight).
- Move the driver seat forward to the stop.
- Remove the bolt -2- and remove the steering intermediate shaft -3- from the steering column -1-.
- Place the vehicle on a hoist.
- Remove the rear noise insulation -arrow-.
- Remove the bolt -arrow-.
- Remove the steering intermediate shaft -1- from the steering gear -2-.
WARNING
Danger of getting burned by the exhaust system depending on the engine installed.
- Remove the protective boot on the straps -arrows- from the body.
- Remove the steering intermediate shaft toward the passenger compartment.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- The threaded holes for the screws must always be cleaned, for example, with a thread cutter.
- Install the steering intermediate shaft.
- Install the steering intermediate shaft -3- on the steering column -1- as far as the stop and tighten the bolt -2-.
- Install the protective boot -2- as far as possible. Make sure, that the arrow -1- points upward.
- Pull the protective boot -1- through the opening.
- Mount the protective boot -1-, without turning it, completely over the collar -2-.
- Then check the installation position of the protective boot above the marking inside the passenger compartment. If necessary, loosen the protective boot and turn it to the correct installation position.
- The mount the steering intermediate shaft -1- all the way onto the steering gear -2- and tighten the bolt -arrow-.
Install in reverse order of removal.
