Audi Q5: Seat Belt Height Adjuster, Removing and Installing

Removing

- Press belt height adjuster button and bring height adjuster slide into lowest position.

- Remove the upper B-pillar trim panel. Refer to → Chapter "B-Pillar Trim Panel, Removing and Installing, Upper B-Pillar Trim Panel".

- Move the upper B-pillar trim to the side with the seat belt still threaded through it.

- Remove the bolt -3-.

- Remove belt relay -2- with belt webbing -1-.

- Remove the bolt -5-.

- Pull seat belt height adjuster -4- up and out of the B-pillar.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- If parts of the seat belt system are removed due to an accident, replace the belt system mounting bolts.

  Note

  • A replacement seat belt height adjuster is delivered with the slide in the lowest position (installation position).
  • If removed seat belt height adjusters are reinstalled, these should be placed in the bottom-most position (assembly position).

- Engage seat belt height adjuster -4- in the B-pillar.

- Tighten the bolt -5-.

- Install the belt relay -2- and tighten the bolt -3-.

  Note

  • The belt height adjuster button must not be pressed when installing the upper B-pillar trim with slide.
  • Ensure that the seat belt height adjuster is in the bottom-most position.

- Make sure the mount -3- for the sliding piece for the upper B-pillar trim -1- is securely latched into the retaining pins -4- on the seat belt height adjuster.

- Install the upper B-pillar trim -1-, refer to → Chapter "B-Pillar Trim Panel, Removing and Installing, Upper B-Pillar Trim Panel", noting belt webbing -2-.

Seat belt height adjuster replacement part:

- After installing the upper B-pillar trim, push the slide all the way up.

  • This unlocks the seat belt height adjuster assembly anchorage.

Procedure for all seat belt height adjusters:

- Check function.

When checking function, following conditions must be fulfilled:

  • The seat belt height adjuster must audibly engage all 5 possible positions (and in the top-most position too).
  • Belt height adjuster button must return to upper position by itself after being pressed.
  • Belt relay must swing into vertical position or carrier direction by itself after tightening screw.

If any functions did not work, the seat belt height adjuster assembly must be checked; the height adjuster may need to be replaced.

Front Seat Belt Latch, Removing and Installing

Removing

- Remove the front seat. Refer to → Chapter "Front Seat, Removing and Installing".

Passenger occupant detection system for deactivating the front passenger airbag (market-specific):

  WARNING

Replace the passenger occupant detection system seat belt latch each time the passenger belt tensioner deploys.

Continuation for all vehicles:

- Disconnect the connector -3- and free up the wire -arrows-.

- Remove bolt -1- and remove belt latch -2-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- If the bolts for the seat belt system are removed due to an accident, replace the belt system mounting bolts.

Front Seat Belt Latch Installation Position

- Install the seat belt latch -1- so that the tab -arrow A- fits into the opening -arrow B- on the seat pan frame -2-.

Passenger occupant detection system for deactivating the front passenger airbag (market-specific):

- If seat occupied recognition passenger airbag deactivation seat belt latch is replaced, seat occupied recognition registration sheet must be filled out with serial number and bar code sticker from new seat belt latch and sent to the sales center or to the importer.

Continuation for all vehicles:

  Note

Make sure the connectors are installed correctly and are secure.

  WARNING

Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

  DANGER!

When working on vehicles with the ignition already switched on or that are ready to drive there is a danger of the engine starting unexpectedly and of being poisoned by gas in enclosed areas. Risk of body parts and/or clothing being clamped or pulled.

Perform the following before switching on the ignition:

  • Move the selector lever into P.
  • Activate the parking brake
  • Turn off the ignition.
  • Open the hood
  • Connect Battery Charger -VAS5095A- to the battery jump start terminal.
  • Turn on the ignition.

- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to → Electrical Equipment; Rep. Gr.27; Battery; Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

  Note

If the Airbag Indicator Lamp -K75- indicates a fault, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again → Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Rear Seat Belt Latch, Removing and Installing

Outer Rear Belt Latch, Removing and Installing

Removing

- Remove the bench seat. Refer to → Chapter "Seat Bench/Single Seat, Removing and Installing".

- Remove bolt -1- and remove belt latch -2-.

Installing

- If parts of the seat belt system are removed due to an accident, replace the belt system mounting bolts.

- Connect the spring -3- to the belt latch -1-.

- Install the bolt -4- into the spring and into the safety belt latch.

- Slide the spring washer-2- over the bolt thread and turn it all the way until it stops.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- If parts of the seat belt system are removed due to an accident, replace the belt system mounting bolts.

- Mount the seat belt latch so that the pin -arrow A- fits into the hole -arrow B- on the seat frame.

Rear Seat Belt Latch in Center Seating Position, Removing and Installing

Removing

- Remove the left two third rear seat. Refer to → Chapter "Rear Seat, Removing and Installing".

- Remove the inner cover on the rear seat backrest. Refer to → Chapter "Inner Cover, Removing and Installing".

- Remove bolt -1- and remove belt latch -2-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- If parts of the seat belt system are removed due to an accident, replace the belt system mounting bolts.

- Mount the belt latch so that the pin fits into the hole in the seat frame -arrow-.
